Are you not entertained?

‘Are you not entertained?’ cries out Maximus Decimus Meridius in disgust as he kills man after man in gladiatorial combat. His outburst silences the baying crowd for a moment, before they recommence their cheering. It’s a brutal, gruesome spectacle emblematic of a sick, self-indulgent Roman society that will eventually implode under the crushing weight of its own decadence.
